The Department of Information Systems (IS) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Lecturer.  This position will also serve as Assistant Graduate Program Director (Asst. GPD) for the Health Information Technology graduate program. This full-time position begins as soon as possible.

The Information Systems Department has 39 full-time faculty and over 1,800 students. Our growing department offers undergraduate degrees in Information Systems and Business Technology Administration.  In addition, the Department houses the Master’s in Health Information Technology, which is a professional degree program. UMBC’s Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Health Information Technology is tailored to meet the needs of professionals in a variety of fields. The program prepares working professionals for careers in health information technology. Courses are offered on weekday evenings at UMBC’s Catonsville campus or online; courses are taught by professionals; students do not write a thesis; and emphasis is on applications and tools. Students are trained to gain advanced skills in strategy, policy, management, and analytics within the context of the health IT field. Requirements

The minimum qualification is a master’s degree in health informatics, health information technology, or a closely related discipline. Candidates should also be involved in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence at any level in education or industry.  Ideal candidates will also have evidence of strong organizational skills, as well as relevant experience in academia, industry, or government. Candidates who have had a non-academic career are encouraged to apply and should emphasize their commitment to staff development and mentorship.  The position will have teaching and administrative responsibilities.

The Lecturer and Asst. GPD position is renewable. The position will teach a wide range of courses, primarily at the Graduate level. The position involves advising students, mentoring teaching assistants, and helping to shape departmental practices and policies. Administrative responsibilities include reviewing applications, conducting industry outreach, and organizing recruitment and engagement events with current and prospective students.
