Description

The System Director of Clinical Informatics will oversee and facilitate the integration of information technology and nursing to manage the communication of data and information within the practice of nursing. This position will hold responsibility for the functional leadership and operational support of clinical information systems utilized throughout nursing and other clinical departments at the system level. This position will collaborate with Chief Nursing Officers and other nurse leaders to standardize the practice of nursing, across the system, in accordance with evidence based practices, processes, and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Facilitates the implementation and application of clinical informatics within patient care areas. Collaborates with CNE as nurse champions for CareConnect. Ensures information systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice and hospital policies Ensures nursing policies match nursing practice, and that these policies and practices are standardized throughout the system Leads the development and maintenance of nursing policies and procedures.

Leads the implementation of nursing specific items related to CareConnect; facilitates upgrades, and enhancements acceptable to achieve business needs and to improve patient care. Conducts analysis of clinical environments and works with care site leaders to facilitate effective workflows and documentation in electronics systems. Identifies, develops and utilizes appropriate forums to solicit input and provide feedback in the development of nursing practice and clinical informatics. Participates in performance improvement initiatives.

Serves on multiple project teams; serves as leader on projects. Maintains and up to date knowledge base of current trends and practices as it relates to clinical information systems and nursing informatics. Serves as nursing liaison to information services. Serves and protects the organization by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements, and the Joint Commission. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks and participating in professional organizations. Enhances hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value.



Requirements

Master’s Degree Nursing

Years of experience: Minimum ten (10) years of experience in clinical/operational leadership and nursing practice in a hospital or major medical center; minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical informatics, planning and executing projects in a hospital or major medical center with evidence of clinical information system use and implementation in a hospital or major medical center; licensed by (or eligible for licensure by) the Ohio Board of Nursing.


SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of change management, implementation of clinical information systems including the electronic health record, clinical decision support, data analytics, data literacy, data governance, project management, workflow analysis, systems analysis, process improvement; use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Excel. 


DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
ANCC Informatics Nursing Certification, AMIA Certified Health Informatics Professional (ACHIP), or Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) certification; experience with Epic or another electronic health record, Epic credential or certification, ability to quickly grasp and apply technical skills required for utilization of multiple software applications and ongoing involvement with various project vendors, strong organization, and presentation skills.
