Organization Profile
Advanced Radiology Services
Organization Overview
Advanced Radiology Services, headquartered in Grand Rapids, is the largest private radiology practice in the U.S. With four divisions serving the greater Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and lakeshore communities, we provide diagnostic and interventional radiology services to thousands of patients through multiple healthcare systems across Michigan.
Organization History
We were formed in 1997, when the two independent radiology practices servicing Butterworth and Blodgett Hospitals merged. In January 2001, Advanced Radiology Services also acquired the radiology practice servicing Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids. Kalamazoo Radiology, P.C., one of the oldest radiology practices in the United States, also joined the practice in April 2003 and is now a division of Advanced Radiology Services. Their legacy of service in the Southwest Michigan area dates back to 1897. On July 1, 2005, Advanced Radiology Services merged with Grand Valley Radiology, which is now the Grand Valley division of Advanced Radiology Services. The Grand Valley division provides services in Greenville and the lakeshore communities. Combined, the three divisions serve eight major healthcare systems throughout the greater West Michigan area.
On June 1, 2004, the Kalamazoo division entered into a joint venture with Bronson Healthcare Group. This joint venture owns and operates Bronson Advanced Radiology Services (BARS), a free-standing medical imaging center in downtown Kalamazoo. BARS offers patients timely access to Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Mammography, Ultrasound, and DexaScan.
In November 2004, Advanced Radiology Services celebrated the opening of two new state-of-the-art imaging centers in Grand Rapids: PET Medical Imaging Center and Advanced Outpatient Imaging. PET Medical Imaging Center, a joint venture of Spectrum Health and Saint Mary’s Health Care in collaboration with Advanced Radiology Services and Kent Radiology, offers the area’s first and only fixed Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner. This technology is critical in the early detection of cancer and other diseases.
Advanced Outpatient Imaging, a Spectrum Health facility in collaboration with Advanced Radiology Services, PC, has two convenient locations within minutes of major highways. Advanced Outpatient Imaging on North Evergreen Drive offers the area’s first Open Magnetic Resonance (MRI) scanner. The open MRI is ideal for larger patients or those who are claustrophobic. Advanced Outpatient Imaging on Kenmoor Avenue is conveniently located at one of the area’s Hematology/Oncology offices and offers Computed Tomography (CT). Advanced Radiology Services manages the day-to-day operations of both imaging centers.
In December, 2008, the Lansing division was formed when physicians from Ingham Radiology Associates joined Advanced Radiology.
