Organization Overview

Cook Children’s Health Care System has been a provider of high-level pediatric health care services and dedicated clinical research to children and families living in north and west Texas for nearly 100 years. Cook Children’s Medical Center and serves a referral area of more than 100,000 square miles in a 110-county area in north central and west Texas. We are a proudly non-academic and non-profit resource to the entire region. Our Promise to this community is, “Knowing that every child’s life is sacred, it is the promise of Cook Children’s to improve the health of every child in our region through prevention and treatment of illness, disease and injury.”

Cook Children’s is constantly on-the-grow. The 429-bed Cook Children’s Medical Center gives infants, children, and young adults needed access to almost 600 pediatricians and surgeons representing more than 30 specialty fields representing the full range of primary through quaternary pediatric care. Children seeking care visit our facilities over 1,000,000 times each year. Keeping up with North Texas’ dramatic economic and community expansion over the past decade, Cook Children’s recently opened 500,000 square feet at the medical center and several free-standing regional clinic facilities. In January, 2013 Cook Children’s Research Central office complex will open at the center of the main campus.

Cook Children’s honors its employees and in return we receive the highest marks for quality. We are a nursing Magnet Designated organization, the only hospital in Texas on The Leapfrog Group’s “Top Hospitals” list, and in May 2012 we were listed by Workplace Dynamics as a “National Top Workplace.” Also, U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2012-2013” listed 6 of 10 of our specialties, in October Modern Healthcare Magazine named us one of the nation’s “Best Places to Work in Healthcare,” and in November we ranked #6 on the Dallas Morning News list of “Top 100 Places to Work in DFW,” for large organizations.
