The Children?s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), currently one of the world?s leading centers for pediatric patient care, research and education, was the first hospital in the United States dedicated exclusively to pediatrics. The organization today includes a full network of integrated services including a 412-bed tertiary care hospital, a dedicated research institute on its main campus, and a community presence that includes a regional system of care encompassing primary care and specialty care centers, cooperatively managed pediatric units in suburban hospitals, and over 25 affiliated Kids First pediatric practices. For the second year in a row, CHOP has received the highest ranking in pediatric care for all hospitals in the United States in the U.S. News and World Report Review of Best Hospitals. In addition, CHOP was recognized as one of the nation?s ?100 Most Wired Hospitals? in Hospitals and Health Networks Most Wired Magazine?s 2004 survey. Academically affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, CHOP had over 23,000 admissions and nearly 1,000,000 ambulatory visits in fiscal year 2004.
