Operating Philosophies
Ensure long-term sustainability of foundational health information exchange through the provision of high quality health information exchange services at the lowest cost to providers.
Remove barriers to ensure that community exchanges can focus upon care coordination and local innovative strategies that improve patient outcomes.
Objectives
Ensure that the core focus of the Health Information Exchange (HIE) is on protecting patient privacy while improving patient care coordination and quality;
Ensure that the costs of operating the HIE are fairly and appropriately shared by all stakeholders and structured to minimize barriers to participation by all providers;
Ensure that the health information exchange is available to and serves the needs of providers and patients, especially in rural and medically underserved areas of the state;
Achieve efficiencies of scale in the purchase and implementation of the core technology infrastructure required by a health information exchange; and
Capitalize on the unique strengths that local communities and regions bring to the HIE and ensure that individual regions or communities have the decision-making authority to address local or regional health-care initiatives.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
In September of 2014, KHIN gained its 100th Hospital Member! The KHIN Staff are working closely with these hospitals ensuring that they can share their data with other KHIN Members. With 130 Hospitals in Kansas, KHIN is excited to boast an 80% Market Share in Hospital Membership bringing better care to patients in Kansas.
With this milestone under our belt, KHIN's relentless staff didn't stop there. On October, 15th KHIN completed its 100th Integration. Completed integrations ensure a more robust longitudinal record for patients resulting in better care. KHIN now has more completed integrations than any other health information exchange in the United States. While these accomplishments are significant for KHIN, the staff and administration are excited to share these wins with their member partners and with all Kansans. With 100 Hospital Members and 100 Completed Integrations, all Kansans can enjoy improved health care quality, coordination and efficiency.
