Organization Profile

The Austin Diagnostic Clinic

Organization Overview

Our doctors have been coordinating your care since 1952

The Austin Diagnostic Clinic is a group of over 125 primary care and specialty care doctors and providers providing care in Austin and surrounding areas in Central Texas.

Our clinic locations provide a wide range of care through our 20 medical specialties. Our physicians work together to coordinate your care and keep you healthy.

Organization History

The Austin Diagnostic Clinic (ADC) is the realization of the dream of Dr. Henry Renfert. He wanted to build a “junior-size” Mayo Clinic — the first of its kind in the Austin area.

After completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, he moved to Austin in 1952 and opened his practice.

Our founding

Over time, Dr. Renfert added partners to the practice.

Expansion

Until the 1980s Internal Medicine and its subspecialties were the mainstay of ADC.

The clinic evolves

ADC was the first clinic in Austin to have available in-house diagnostic radiology and a clinical laboratory.

We were the first to offer nuclear scanning, outpatient stress testing, echocardiography, and 24-hour cardiac monitoring.

Our doctors staffed the first intensive care unit and performed the first heart catheterization in Central Texas.

Austin’s first specialty-trained invasive Cardiologist, Nephrologist, Endocrinologist, Rheumatologist and Pulmonary Disease specialists were also ADC doctors.

Growing with Austin

In 1995 The Austin Diagnostic Clinic, in a partnership with HCA, opened the Austin Diagnostic Medical Center in north Austin on the MoPac frontage road just south of Parmer Lane.

After five years, The Austin Diagnostic Clinic and HCA (which had joined with St. David’s Healthcare System) decided to end the partnership. The hospital became St. David’s North Austin Medical Center (NAMC) and ADC remained an independent, physician-owned multi-specialty clinic. ADC resides as a tenant inside NAMC and has its largest number of specialites and providers housed within the hospital – this location is referred to as the “Main Clinic”.

Expansion

Five years ago, ADC simply outgrew the space for Family Practice and Pediatrics in the Main Clinic. ADC owned a plot of land to the northeast of NAMC and began construction of a 3-story building. ADC Cedar Bend became home to Pediatrics, Family Practice and a new service, EasyCare, which provides after-hours and weekend care for those unable to see a doctor during the day or with urgent care needs.

Fast forward to 2011 when the Clinic began a second expansion project. It was evident that the James Casey office in south Austin needed to move to a new location – or in this case locations – which were more accessible to families and our patient base. ADC built and opened ADC Circle C and ADC Westlake in late 2011.

The ADC Circle C office is situated in the heart of the Circle C neighborhood in southwest Austin. This is a primary care office with Allergy, Family Practice, Pediatrics, Podiatry, Lab, X-ray and EasyCare available to patients.

ADC Westlake offers more specialized care anchored by full-time Internal Medicine and Dermatology specialists and lab. The other specialties which rotate through the clinic are Cardiology, Endocrinology, Hematology/Oncology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonary, Rheumatology and Urology.
